How SCYSAC Got Started

The need for a center for developmentally handicapped sons and daughters of residents of both communities was brought to the attention of the Committee for the Handicapped of the Civitan Club of Sun City. Roy Natvig (a member of Sun City Civitan) was the Founder and Director of SCYSAC. His long period of service was assisted by volunteers contributing their unique skills and talents. Joyce Ridge, Executive Director of the Upward Foundation in Phoenix, encouraged and assisted in the development of the SCYSAC Program.

SCYSAC got their start in 1979 in the social hall of St. Joachim’s Church on 111th Ave, Sun City. On October 1st, 1979 the program moved to it’s present location at Lakeview United Methodist Church, where a larger activity area and more storage space are available.
